Trafficstop: Legal Services for Victims of Trafficking from the African Diaspora
Trafficstop, a program by the Global Legal Foundation, provides critical legal support and resources to victims of human trafficking from the African Diaspora. We are dedicated to helping survivors escape exploitation and rebuild their lives with dignity, offering compassionate, culturally sensitive legal services. Whether they have faced labor trafficking, sex trafficking, or other forms of exploitation, victims from African migrant communities can find the help they need through Trafficstop.
Types of Trafficking We Address:
- Labor Trafficking:
Labor trafficking involves forcing individuals to work under exploitative conditions through threats, deception, or coercion. Migrants from the African Diaspora are particularly vulnerable to labor trafficking in industries such as agriculture, construction, and domestic work. Our legal team helps victims escape these abusive environments and secure justice.
- Sex Trafficking:
Sex trafficking forces individuals into commercial sexual exploitation. Many migrants, especially women and children from African communities, are coerced or tricked into sex trafficking. Trafficstop offers legal assistance to help survivors gain legal status, protection, and access to essential recovery services.
- Domestic Servitude:
Domestic servitude is a form of labor trafficking where individuals are forced to work in private homes, often under conditions of extreme isolation and abuse. Many African migrants working as domestic workers fall victim to this type of trafficking, and we advocate for their rights and freedom.
- Child Trafficking:
Children are particularly vulnerable to trafficking, whether for forced labor, sexual exploitation, or criminal activity. At Trafficstop, we offer legal protection for trafficked children, including assistance with Special Immigrant Juvenile (SIJ) status, ensuring their safety and stability in the United States.
How Trafficstop Helps:
- Legal Representation:
Trafficstop provides pro bono legal services for trafficking survivors, including assistance with T visas, U visas, and asylum applications. Our goal is to ensure that victims can remain in the U.S. legally and safely.
- Immigration Relief:
We assist trafficking survivors in obtaining legal status, protecting them from deportation and ensuring they can access necessary services without fear of immigration repercussions.
- Language and Cultural Support:
We provide culturally sensitive services, offering assistance in Wolof, French, and English to ensure that survivors from African communities understand their rights and legal options.
- Partnerships and Resources:
Through partnerships with local and international organizations, Trafficstop connects survivors with essential services such as counseling, medical care, housing, and job training to support their recovery and reintegration.
- Advocacy and Awareness:
Trafficstop also advocates for stronger protections and legal remedies for victims of trafficking. We work to raise awareness of trafficking issues within African migrant communities to prevent exploitation and support those at risk.
